LTE Is Here...Now What?
I am sure by now you have noticed some heavy campaigning by both operators about LTE and not enough of the benefits of LTE. While Bmobile launched their LTE network back in Dec 2016, Digicel launched their upgraded network in July. There has been a collective yawn from the public with these announcements, and no real urgency to upgrade their SIMS, or ensure that their new phones are actually LTE compatible.
We know this because even Digicel’s head honcho said the adoption rate of LTE across the Caribbean was long, and Bmobile’s drive to get people to change SIMS is all but echoing the same sentiment. LTE is a huge upgrade over the 3g network, so lets talk about the top 10 benefits for consumers that they will experience with the LTE network.
10 Benefits of LTE
Stream HD Music & Video
What’s the point of forking out top dollar for devices that have these amazing displays and great Quad DAC’s for HiFi audio, if we aren’t putting it to use outside of a good Wifi connection? LTE allows for us to have a much faster connection to allow us to stream Hi res video and Hifi audio without the buffering.
Better Upload Speeds
One of the most underrated features of LTE is the faster upload speeds. Our smartphones are able to shoot in 4k, we can edit our videos on our devices and upload to Youtube. Maybe we are live streaming events that we are having. There are a ton of reasons why faster upload streams are just as important as a good download speed, LTE helps in this area tremendously.
Download large files on the Go!
We live in a time where we are always mobile and need to be connected for a variety of reasons. More people are working on the go than ever before, services like Wetransfer or used specifically to get large files from one user to the next, and we wont always be able to wait to get into a Wifi zone to download large files. As for me, I am always downloading albums on the go.
Better Voice/Video Calling Quality
It’s great to finally be able to have a proper Whatsapp/Skype/Facetime/Facebook Voice or Video call, without the use of Wifi. iOs released an update that would allow 32 people to be on a video call at once, which is great for businesses. Imagine trying to do that on 3g (yikes). You will have much clearer calls and less pixelated video calls when you are in an LTE area.
Faster Voice Assistants
With a faster and more responsive network, you can finally put Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri and Bixby to work for you. When you are asking the assistants questions for information, we need these responses in a timely manner. It’s a breath of fresh air using them on an LTE network.
Better Online Shopping
We are doing more and more business through E-commerce now. Businesses are coming out with options to pay on their websites or through mobile apps. Here are some stats on mobile e-commerce from the US. 62% of smartphone users have made a purchase from their mobile devices in the last 6 months, Ecommerce now comprises of 10% of all retail revenue and growing, 80% of shoppers use a device inside of store to lookup and compare products. Faster, Reliable Payment Terminals!
I am sure you have had a courier come to your house to drop a package, and pulled out a terminal that ran on a 2g connection, and you may be in an area with no signal to process that transaction. With payment machines like First Citizens Bank’s M-First machine, it connects via bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet, and processes transactions using data. The faster the connection, the quicker it processes and this is great if you are doing deliveries or have pop up shops.
Faster Mobile Hot Spots
Are you somebody who is on the go and has a variety of devices that may not take a SIM card but needs to be connected? You will most definitely benefit from the faster speeds to your hotspot device as it accommodates your other gadgets.
Faster Web page Load Time
Well this is pretty self explanatory. LTE allows for a much better internet browsing experience.
Better Gaming Experience
When it comes to online gaming, gamer’s want a network that is highly responsive (low latency), so that their games do not freeze which can cost them to have a bad experience. Since the gaming category has blown up with the new gaming phones and high end titles like Fortnite & PubG leading the way, LTE is all but a must for the gamers.
LTE has shown to boost the GDP of countries, and creates a laundry list of opportunities that consumers can take advantage of. Having a faster and more responsive network will allow for a variety of new businesses to be able to take shape. On a personal note, simply being able to connect to family and friends around the world is a major help for all of us.
