Has Apple Finally Lost Their Way?
Apple has posted yet another disappointing quarter and have now slipped to the 4th spot on the global market. At one point it felt like Apple could do no wrong in the smartphone market and they are now struggling to push units out the door.
As the Q2 numbers were posted by London based global info provider, IHS Markit, Apple only managed to ship 35.3 million units for Q2 2019. They were surpassed by a smidge from the Chinese tech firm Oppo, who managed this feat by selling 36.2 million smartphones. That brings them up to third place with 11% share in the market.
Samsung finished Q1 in the #1 spot by moving 75.1 million units with a current marketshare of 23%. Huawei at this point doesn’t seem to be affected by the US and the trade ban talks to much because they still pumped out 58.7 million phones and currently have 18% marketshare.
The Q2 Top 10

Sold 75.1 million units in Q2, currently owns 23% of the marketshare, which is 2% more than their numbers in Q2 2018.
2) Huawei

Smartphone Sales Have Dropped
Apple is continuing to post abysmal numbers which are now calling int question what their direction is and where do they go from here. Is it time for Tim Cook to step down? Just 1 year ago for the same period, Apple sold 41.3 million devices and have now dropped to just 35.3 devices in 2019. iPhone sales officially count for less than half of Apple’s revenue and devices like the Apple watch are now outselling the iPhones.
Smartphone sales overall have dropped for 7 consecutive quarters, down 3.6% for the same period last year.
As phones continue to become more future proof, people continue to hold onto their devices a bit longer than before. There also hasn’t been to much innovation that warrants upgrades from the previous year of smartphones.
Of the top 10 smartphone OEM’s, only 4 have actually seen growth (Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, TCL-Alcatel) for Q2 2019.
We will continue to monitor the trends in Q3 as we have some much awaited devices to be released.
