Digicel Vs Bmobile: Battle of The Unlimited Plans!

With LTE Live, Who Has The Best Unlimited Plans?

Finally, Digicel has released their LTE network and added Unlimited plans. With that, both of our networks are offering the same technology and similar plans, but who has the best offerings? That is a loaded question, one that will always differ based on everyone’s individual experiences. While the service of the network and customer service will vary, the plans are black and white and easy to dissect on who is giving the better offerings.

Better, however, is subjective. My intention here is to break down the offerings from both the Red & Green networks, that way you can have a better understanding as to who is matching your needs better and giving you the best bang for your buck.

What makes up a good Unlimited Plan?

It first starts with the foundational piece of information that the average person never looks at. It comes in the form of the Fair Usage Policy. Anybody can offer an unlimited service, but to what end?

The Red & Green FUP Policy...

As per the website, they have developed a threshold that will be relied upon in cases of excessive use. The threshold is an avg of customer profiles and predicted usage. When I contacted Digicel for info on the threshold, the rep on the live chat told me it was 450gb. At the LTE event, Technical Director Chandrika Samaroo said there would be no data capping on unlimited plans. The FUP states Digicel reserves the right to charge you additionally, suspend, restrict or modify or withdraw you from the plan all together if they see abuse.

As per the website, Bmobile states they want to protect the 99% of the consumers on the network. That being said, if the usage far exceeds that of the 99% during the billing cycle, they reserve the right to launch an investigation to see if there is abuse of the network. If abuse is found they can/will reduce or suspend your services to determine your usage and if it falls in line with their policies. As soon as I find out what the average usage is on the network, I will update this post accordingly.

Digicel Unlimited

Digicel has 3 distinct advantages baked into their unlimited plans. The first is that they offer the cheapest unlimited plan at $350ttd. The second advantage is that they offer Unlimited calling to specified countries. The Third is the Caribbean Roaming Passport. If you are someone who frequents other islands under the Digiroam agreement, you can get free calls back to your home country and no additional roaming charges on your data.

Bmobile Unlimited

Bmobile has a big advantage that they have been building their network long before Digicel, therefore more places right now are able to take advantage of LTE and the Unlimited plans to full extent. They also throw in roaming mintues and data for those who travel to Lime Caribbean countries, USA, Canada, Guyana, UK. Another big advantage for Bmobile, they offer postpaid plans lower than the $350 price point of Digicel. Bmobile postpaid plans start from $99.

When looking at going on a postpaid plan from either carrier, it is important to understand your needs. Digicel is great for the additional Long Distance minutes and traveling to other Caribbean Islands, while Bmobile includes roaming features for some specified countries. While LTE is live on both networks, make sure your area has proper coverage so you can take advantage of the Unlimited plans.
