Whatsapp has finally fixed a major gripe that all users have had since the dawn of time, recovering those pictures, videos, voice notes, GIFS, and documents when they have been deleted. Albeit this update has only rolled out for Android thus far, fingers crossed for all my iOs followers that this feature rolls out to you soon.
Now given the fact that Whatsapp is owned by Facebook, and Facebook has been in some really hot water lately due to privacy and data leak concerns, one know wonders just how much of our Whatsapp information is being saved on the servers now that we are able to recover lost media.
Whatsapp does boast end to end encryption, and Facebook does say they are unable to see any of the information that is sent via Whatsapp but now we gotta wonder just how true this is.
Anyways, on to the good stuff, in the Whatsapp build (2.8.113) will allow users to redownload the deleted media.
The first step for this recovery to happen is that files can only be recovered once both users have not closed the chat. Then, scroll through the chat until you find the file that was deleted, and tap on it then hit save.
Your information does have to sit longer on the Whatsapp servers, but the end to end encryption is still there and ensures that nobody else, even Facebook will be able to see your information.
So let me know if you have downloaded the new Whatsapp and if you are able to recover those lost media files in the comments below.
