Most Powerful Android Smartphones Out Now!

So we are now half way through 2017 and we have had quite a few devices drop from OEM’s. Now we have decided to take a look at what are currently the crème of the crop offerings for the first half of the year (these devices are all 2017). If money is no object and you are just looking for the best of the best, here are our current picks.

LG G6

LG G6 Trinidad & TobagoLG was first to the dance this year and set the tone for what we could expect from the flagship department. They did not disappoint either. From the beautiful screen to the new aspect ratio, the first device to work with Netflix’s Dolby vision, the camera quality, water resistance, dual sim, plenty of storage, wireless charging and fast charging. LG really put out a product worth picking up. The biggest knock would be the omission of this year latest and greatest from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 821
  • Dual Sim
  • Dolby Vision/HDR 10
  • Android 7.0
  • IP68 rating
  • 5.7” Quad HD display, aspect ratio 18:9
  • 32/64gb storage, expandable to 256gb, w/4gb RAM
  • 3300mAh battery

Huawei P10 Plus

Huawei P10 Plus TrinidadHuawei P10 Plus is their golden boy for 2017. While there is the regular P10, the plus version ups the ante to create a very compelling package. Huawei has steadily increased their market share on the mobile playing field year after, managing to take away precious space from Samsung. They currently sit in 3rd in terms of smartphone sales over the last few fiscal quarters. The highlight of this device would be the Kirin 960 that although came out last year and featured in the Mate 9, still outperforms the Snapdragon 821 and makes a case to be on of the best processors on the market. This is while the Snapdragon 835 is around. The dual Leica lenses offer great camera quality, and Huawei has figured out how to make great hardware devices.

Specs:

  • HiSilicon Kirin 960
  • Dual sim
  • 5.5” IPS LCD Quad HD display
  • Splash resistant
  • Android 7.0
  • Dual 20mp + 12mp rear camera, 8mp front
  • 64gb storage, 4gb RAM or 128gb storage, 6gb RAM
  • Stereo speakers
  • 3750mAh battery

Samsung S8+

Samsung S8 TrinidadSamsung released this beauty of the device. The screen, oh how that infinity display is gorgeous and currently one of the best displays out. We are a long way away from the bad design language of the S5, and Samsung seems to keep refining their designs and finding their stride. We like the S8, but the Plus variant offers a bigger battery to make it a bit more appealing. Samsung Dex allows you to turn the phone into a desktop computer, and Bixby is the AI assistant tasked with the chore of competing against Google Assistant, Cortana and Siri.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895
  • Dual Sim
  • 6.2” Super AMOLED Quad HD display
  • IP68 rating
  • Android 7.0
  • 12mp rear camera, 8mp front
  • 64gb storage, 4gb ram or 128gb storage, 6gb of RAM
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • Samsung DEX
  • 3500mAh battery

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony XZ PremiumAre Sony’s glory days finally all behind them? Given their struggles to convert these devices into sales, one would think so. The XZ Premium looks to change the companies fortunes again, but does it do enough given the playing field? For starters, Sony has packed the XZ Premium with an industry first, a 4k screen on a 5.4” display.  Needless to say, the viewing on the XZ will please the media consumers. Coupled with stereo speakers, a new iteration of a side power/fingerprint button, top notch specs, we have the making of an interesting device.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 835
  • Dual sim
  • 5.4” 4k IPS LCD
  • IP68 Rating
  • Android 7.1
  • 19mp rear camera, 13mp front camera
  • 64gb storage, 4gb of RAM, expandable to 256gb
  • Stereo speakers
  • 3230 mAh battery

Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi Mi 6 TrinidadThis will probably be one of the more underrated devices for 2017. It’s hard to say anything bad about it, when any shortcoming can be justified due to the low price point. The Mi 6 Is one of those devices that packs a tonne of power and is another great device offering bang for your buck. The design is nice, especially if you grab the ceramic version. It has average battery life, smooth performance, and dual camera.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 835
  • Dual Sim
  • 5.1” IPS LCD 1080p display
  • Water resistant

HTC U11

HTC U11 TrinidadHTC has had some bad years but has retooled and manage to launch 2 pretty good devices back to back. The U Ultra was nice, and here comes the U11. HTC has been known to make some great devices but it hasn’t helped by the way of sales. The U11 is back with an amazing audio experience with its new iteration of boom sound, all day battery life, excellent camera, great display and the new squeeze feature that you can set for different shortcuts.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 835
  • 5.5” Quad HD Super LCD5
  • Dual sim
  • IP67 Rating
  • Android 7.1
  • 12mp rear camera, 16mp front camera
  • 64gb w/ 4gb RAM or 128gb w/6gb RAM
  • Stereo speakers
  • 3000mAh

ZTE Nubia Z17

Zte Nubia Z17 TrinidadZTE has done it again. First, it was darkhorse in 2016, the Axon 7 (which is still probably the best-valued phone in 2017) and now they have brought to us the Nubia Z17 which is arguably the most powerful on the market so far. It is the second phone to come out with 8GB of Ram and the first to come out with Qualcomm’s new Quick charge 4+. The device is water resistant, has Dolby Atmos sound, IR blaster, a variety of colours, minimal bezels, and another low price tag. With each new release out of China, one must ask themselves if spending over $500usd now is considered over spending for a great device.

Specs:

  • Snapdragon 835
  • 5.5” 1080p IPS LCD
  • Dual Sim
  • Water resistant
  • Android 7.1.1
  • Dual camera 23+12mp camera, 16mp front camera
  • 64gb storage w/ 6gb RAM or 128gb storage w/8gb RAM
  • 3200mAh battery

Well, that’s our list for most powerful devices you can pick up right now. If you agree with the list or feel there is another 2017 offering that can be added to the list, we would love to hear from you in the comments below.
