The Top 5 Flagship Phones of Summer 2k18

The Top 5 Summer 2k18 Flagship Phones Are Finally Here!

Just when you thought that summer of 2018 would bring about some phones that were simply refinements of their previous offerings from manufacturers, it has been anything but that. We finally have, do I dare say it? Innovation!

Think about it, flagships for a while have plateaued and we are now finally seeing manufacturers looking to break the mould. I honestly thought the only thing we would be getting is a Snapdragon 845 CPU and a notch! So since the top 5 hottest phones for the summer are offering much more than that, let’s get right into it.

The Oppo Find X

The Oppo camp has seemed to achieve what every other manufacturer has been trying to do for the last year or so, evaporate bezels. In doing attempting to do this, we have seen one of the most innovative devices on the market to date and has bullied its way to being one of the top 5 most requested smartphones of the summer.

Design

The Find X boasts the highest screen to body ratio on the market at 93.8%. It is a AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080x2340.

Peek A Boo Camera's

The Find X has a retractable mechanism that hides the front 25mp and rear 20mp+16mp cameras when they are not in use.

Performance

Oppo doesn't release a flagship every year, but when they do, it's magic. They have thrown in the latest soc from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845 with 8gb of RAM and your choice of 128gb or 256gb of storage.

Fresh

Regardless who you ask, if you ask who has the freshest device on the market, the Oppo Find X will probably be the device that gets mentioned first. Its just great to see a manufacturer step out outside of the box with a new design, and Oppo is no stranger to pushing the boundaries.

The Vivo Nex S

If the Oppo Find X is in 1st place for design innovation, than the Vivo Nex S is in 2nd. There is a lot to like in this bundle of innovation. So if you are looking for a new device straight out of a sci-fi movie, check out the Nex S.

Design

The design is clearly why you would even check out the Vivo Nex S. With a 91% screen to body ratio with a 6.59" Amoled panel, the display is gorgeous. It also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Hidden Camera

This is the first the device with that 007 hidden camera. As soon as you want to take a selfie, the camera pops up from the time, then tucks back in when you close the app or switch to the front cameras.

Performance

The Nex S comes with the Snapdragon 845 CPU with 8gb of RAM and either 128gb or 256gb of storage.

In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

The Vivo Nex S also belongs to a very select crew that has a in-screen fingerprint sensor. This is another way they are able to give you that incredible screen to body ratio.

The Oneplus 6

Oneplus has made their best and most popular device since the original Oneplus One was launched. They have had a few years to finally get things right and we are now presented with a device that leads the pack in terms of performance. If you don’t mind not having an official IP rating and wireless charging, the Oneplus 6 can stand toe to toe with any device that costs double it’s price tag.

Snapdragon 845 CPU

The Snapdragon 845 is currently the most powerful CPU on the market. Coupled with 8gb of RAM, Oxygen OS and you now have the fastest phone on the smartphone market to date.

Battery & Dash Charge

The Oneplus 6 comes with a 3300mAh battery and Dash charge makes a triumphant return. You can get 55% battery life on a 30min charge. This is a great consolation prize to having no wireless charging.

Dual Camera's

The OP6 packs 2 sony sensors in the form of a 16mp+20mp setup. The main 16mp sensor now has OIS and a larger sensor to take in more light. It also packs a 16mp selfie shooter.

Display

The display is now a 6.28" Optic Amoled 1080p panel. It also comes with a notched design which you can disable in the settings.

The Xiaomi Mi 8

It took Xiaomi just 18 days to hit the 1 million units sold marker. Considering this device sells off contract without any carrier support, the feat proves that the Xiaomi Mi 8 is definitely a winner. It is currently pound for pound the best bang for your buck. When you take into consideration what this devices offers in comparison to devices that are twice the price, you will begin to have a greater appreaciation for what Xiaomi has done with the Mi 8.

Design

With a 6.21" Amoled display, the premium glass back and excellent in hand field, this device is a joy to hold. Sure it looks like an iPhone X, but I know there are many Android users who love the iPhone X design.

Camera

This device currently sits at the 5th spot on the DxO mark rating list for smartphones. The 4 devices above it all cost double the price, which says a ot about how good these cameras are.

Value For Money

As it stands right now, this device is hands down the best device for your money, dollar for dollar. Now with project treble and the possibility of this device getting stock Android P, since its sibling the Mix 2s has gotten the beta version, it makes this device even more appealing.

Performance

The Mi 8 is currently the cheapest device with the top CPU on the market, the Snapdragon 845. Paired with 6gb of RAM and you have a device that can handle anything you throw at it.

The Honor 10

The Honor 10 has been one of the fastest selling phones in Europe over the Summer. It is definitely not hard to see why. It packs a lot of the same features of the more expensive P20, with very little compromises and a big drop in the price. The performance is stellar and offers some excellent photography. The average consumer will do very well by checking out this device. The Honor 10 will also be in the conversation for best designs when 2018 comes to a close.

Design

Probably the top feature of this device is the gradient, shiny, reflective, bold and unconventional look. It is easily in the conversation for being the top 3 best looking smartphones of 2018, with a strong push for number 1.

Cameras

AI has been paired with a 24mp+16mp rear shooters. The combination works quite well as AI uses algorithms to brighten areas of a shot, or change the focus, to create what it believes will be the best result. You also get a 24mp selfie camera, which will ensure your social media pictures are on point.

Performance

You get the powerful Kirin 970 thats found in the P20 series, paired with either 64 or 128gb of storage and 4 or 6gb of RAM. The device is definitely one of the more powerful devices in the price segment.

Value For Money

If you are have expensive taste but don't want to break the bank for a great phone, the Honor 10 fits the bill. With an amazing design, flagship performance and cameras that are some of the best in its segment, you will not regret a dollar spent on this phone.

Keron Mc Leish

Good phones have become cheap, and cheap phones have become good. As the phones around the $500usd segment make waves in terms of camera and display technology, it becomes increasingly harder for the average person to spend more than $500usd. The Xiaomi Mi 8 is almost identical in specs in comparison to devices that cost over $800usd. Manufacturers will do well by creating devices that specialize in a specific area, to justify more expensive devices and niche down. But the everyday user will never need more than a Oneplus 6, Xiaomi Mi 8 or Honor 10.
